Carrying through on, and intensifying speech therapy, running parallel with ergo therapy or other.
Associated with the symptoms of speech problems we often find secondary symptoms such as behavioural problems, psychological stress, group dynamic problems, etc. Parents can help their child in these areas.
hearing training serves to activate the central hearing canal. In this canal auditory signals are filtered, located, and the structure analysed. Useless noises are subdued (background noise) and useful noises magnified. This all happens at the same time.
Functional therapeutic treatment cannot be replaced, e.g. myofunctional exercises to strengthen lips, jaws, chewing muscles. Through hearing training you accomplish that these exercises (later or parallel) can be assimilated and integrated better and that e.g. auditory concentration can be improved and the emotional situation balanced. These are basic foundations for successful therapeutic treatment.

Compare seeing with hearing:

Memory:

When one does not notice (see) something instantly, one can always take another look.
When one does not hear something instantly, the sound is gone and one has to ask to have it repeated…

Localisation - auditory perception

With vision, the pupil is physically focused. The brain controls the eye muscles.
With hearing, the neurone centre of the hearing canal focuses on the acoustical surroundings.

Safety Mechanism

The eyes have a closing mechanism and can protect themselves from too much light.
The ears can only partially protect themselves from too much sound with the middle ear muscles, and this only as a delayed reaction.

Carry through on hearing training

Please look at the Training plan and discuss this plan with your therapist. This plan accompanies every piece of equipment or appliance.

Adult Patients

The described therapy procedures in Phase A can be applied to all age groups. In Phase B the text materials should be selected to suit the age of the patient. Practising sounds or listening to texts read into the microphone by other family members is useful.

Auditory perception training (High Frequency- and Lateraltraining) content and stimulus are individualised.
In this Sound Therapy normal music CDs are listened to, using lateral and/or high frequency equipment. This is phase A. The patient wears head phones and is creatively active.

Auditory perception training in the phase B with speech, is done using the same equipment. The child and parent/therapist both wear headphones. They work with the CD player, to play texts, and then speak into the microphone to develop direct dialogue.

(HPT) Direction (Lateral) and Speech (High Frequency) Training in combination

Combination of both methods DPT and SPT. Exceptionally effective.

Material: 1 HPT-Trainer (HPT home), 1-2 headphones (HD 570 or HDK 66), music CDs and text materials. See page

(DPT) Direction Perception (Lateral) Training

In lateral training the signal moves back and forth from ear to ear. See page

Material: 1 Lateral-Trainer (DPT home), 1 headphone (HD 570 or HDK 66) music CDs and text materials.

(SPT) Speech Perception (High Frequency) Training

In High Frequency Training the high frequencies are maximised and the lower frequencies are minimised. See page

Material: 1 High Frequency Trainer (SPT home), 1 headphone (HD 570 or HDK 66), music CDs and text materials.

Test devices for diagnostic investigation and functional training:

To test and train the temporal processing (order- / fusion- threshold), the device provides pitch distinction and sound localization with stimuli in the auditory and visual modality.

An economic pocket version of the device is available for semi-professional and home-use applications alternatively multifunction devices for therapists and doctors. Here are decribed only the home-use applications.

(O) Order Threshold Training

Stimuli are given at random. The stimuli has to be placed in order (was the right or the left first) by pressing the keys.

Materials: 1 Universal Trainer (Brain Fit home) OR 1 Order Threshold Trainer Brain-Fit Easy (OT 70 or OT 2000, no accessories required) or Game Boy® card (Brainy uni) to fit in Game Boy® models.

(S) Synchronisation Training

A beat is given. The user is to imitate the given beat. The user enters his beat on the keys.

Material: 1 Universal Trainer (Brain Fit home) OR 1 Synchro Trainer Brain-Fit Synchro (OT 73). No accessories required.

(P) Pitch Training

High frequency patterns are given. The user shall recognize which is the higher frequency. The answer is keyed in.

Material: 1 Universal Trainer (Brain Fit home). No accessories required.
